This morning's coffee is brought to you by Sisters Sludge at 4557 Bloomington Avenue in Minneapolis. Clearly the other direction from my Edina Realty office in Highland, but oh so worth the drive.

Today is my first day back from a long weekend road trip and I'm in need of some home-town mud. There isn't a coffee shop in town that could have provided a better welcome home. This cafe is so cozy I wanted to huddle into a corner and settle in with a good book instead of trudging off to work this morning. But, trudge I must.

You know that first day back from vacation when you start the day feeling relaxed and content, and by the end of the day you realize you need another vacation? I'm preparing for a day like that today. But at least I've started it off on the right foot. Happy Monday!

Mondays are for Coffee

I wondered a little out of my way today for the Mondays are for Coffee article. I'm glad I did. Blue Moon Coffee Cafe is located in the Minneapolis Longfellow neighborhood at 3822 E Lake Street. This is a popular coffee shop where it's often difficult to find a seat. The front of the coffee shop offers lots of sunny booths, while the back of the shop is adorned with kitchy old furniture you can slump into to read your favorite book. Local artists' works line the walls and the staff just couldn't be any friendlier. With the soft music, the little coffee shop offers a peaceful serene stop during your day. They offer Coffee, pastries and sandwiches.

I parked on a side street and welcomed the short walk in the beautiful morning weather that offered a respite from the heat we had the last two days. I splurged on a large vanilla latte.

Don't let the pesky Lake Street Construction stop you from stopping into the Blue Moon.

Mondays are for Coffee-Nokomis Beach Cafe in Minneapolis

This REALTOR was particularly groggy this morning. Today is Monday, and Monday's are the day I mention a neighborhood coffee shop in the Longfellow/Nokomis neighborhood. I forced myself out of bed, put on some sneakers, and walked 2 blocks to the closest neighborhood coffee shop, the Nokomis Beach Cafe. There were already a few people sitting outside reading the paper, and a few cyclists stopped for a quick carbo-load.

I ordered a large dark roast, and pondered a pastry treat, but my self-discipline was in full gear, reminding me of the weekend of indulgence. This is some of the best dark-roast coffee I've had in Minneapolis. Nokomis Beach Cafe - one block from Lake Nokomis-makes the perfect place to start your day with a cup of fresh java. Wonder down to the lake with your coffee and treat, or lounge on the patio and admire the canoe planted full of flowers! Lounge around with your laptop with the free wifi, have a pastry, a sandwich, soup or ice cream.

I strolled home enjoying my morning coffee, glad to say I live in my Minneapolis Nokomis Neighborhood.

The Nokomis Beach Cafe is located on 50th Street and 28th Avenue in the Nokomis neighborhood in south Minneapolis.

Minnehaha Coffee

About a week ago I drove by the old Dairy Queen building right next to the Super Valu on Cedar Avenue. There was a sign in the parking lot that said "Caribou Coffee, Coming Soon." I cringed. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Caribou. In fact I've met many-a-client at a Caribou Coffee shop. In fact, I think they have some of the best dessert coffees around.

I'm just a little protective of our Longfellow Nokomis neighborhood charm, and don't want it to be infiltrated with generic big chain stores that are a dime a dozen in the suburbs. I love driving down side roads on my way home at night and finding a little shop I didn't know was there before. I don't want our little neighborhood coffee shops to be replaced by the big generic chains.

So, we have Caribou Coffee to thank for a new feature on our little blog...

I drive by this building at least twice a day between my home in the Nokomis Neighborhood and the Highland Park Edina Realty Office. Today I stopped. You should too.

You'll find Minnehaha Coffee in a remodeled gas station. They've worked some magic here. This is a clean, tidy welcoming place where I'd be happy to meet a client. Yummy coffee, pastries, sandwiches soups and free Wireless Internet. I hear the Minnehaha Sandwich is to die for. Walking distance to the Hiawatha Light Rail and Minnehaha Falls, this coffee shop is the perfect place to take a break. Start you day with breakfast, or end it with a pastry. The employees were friendly and there's a great patio to put your feet up and enjoy an iced latte.
